This product is a home run. Everything from protein variety, cost, 1.5lb packaging, etc. my pup eats 1lb a day and the 30 lb box is ideal for a monthly order.
Only problem now is you sold out so fast 🙂
Deborah Lesperance –
Love the product however a chicken free bistro box would be a godsend.
Valerie –
Love the combination of meat, veggies and bone, appropriate for my pack of small dogs. The chicken would be great with more bone and much less fat, greasy.
Hopefully, in the future, you will be bringing out more “bistro” combos…
Great job!
BCR –
Hi Valerie, Thanks for the review! Our XL Chicken has only 9% fat, and the standard 10% ground bone. If your dogs need more calcium (bone) in their diet, a great way to achieve this is by adding some meal bones into the rotation – always supervising, of course.
Sandra Allen (verified owner) –
Really like the protein variety but would like less chicken. Or a variety box with no chicken.
BCR –
Hi Sandra, We currently have the Beef XL which is Chicken free. We’ll certainly consider the feedback for more options.
Carol –
It would be nice if there was an XL dinner that did not have any beef component. My golden doodle is allergic to beef
BCR –
Hi Carol! Unfortunately it’s nearly impossible to accommodate each dog’s individual needs, but we’re always open to suggestions!

My dogs love the bistro. I love price point since I’m feeding two 55 lb. girls who are active. They like their bowls clean every time. I always add extra cooked veggies to their bowls and fish oil but only once a day. Thank you for these convenient to use packages which fit beautifully into my small freezer.
Brenda –
Our pups are loving the Bistro Box. We love the convenience as our dogs go through 2lbs a day, variety and price of 30lbs, and the grind being chunky is great.
COLLEEN OUIMET –
My dogs love the new Xl dinners, my only complaint is the whoe cranberries. We are always left with whole cranberries in their bowl after a meal.
BCR –
Hey Colleen, We always value our customer’s suggestions so thank you for sharing. We’ve heard similar feedback from others so we’ve begun to grind up the cranberries in the newest batches.

The new XL size is perfect for my dog and I. She’s 75 pounds and needs 1.5lbs daily, so the XL size definitely makes it easier to just use one bag a day instead of mentally calculating how many bags need to be defrosting the night before to ensure she has food ready the next day. I like the variety for her in one box; however, she’s not a fan of chicken, so to have 12 of that vs only 6 for the others needs some persuading for her with additional expenses for powders and milk to offset the taste. I love that this lasts 20 days compared to me going in every week to buy more 1bs as they don’t last very long for her. I wish the buy 12 promo worked on these as well. Overall, I definitely recommend this box for larger dogs due to variety, ease and savings!
Gina –
Love your product. Both of my Springers enjoy it very much. It has been so good for my elderly springer — skin, energy, appetite. I just wish you had some boxes that had salmon/fish and no chicken!

I’m so happy that they came out with the 30lb box. I’d love to see the same bistro box without chicken, but with a fish instead but overall BCR saved my dog – everything I fed her made her sick and it was months of loose stools and digestive upset and stomach infections. Since I switched her to BCR her skin and coat is amazing, and her stool is finally looking normal. the 30lb box is great because it lasts the month for her, so it helps to keep things consistent.
Rob Neil –
Love the convenience, but would like to see pork available on it’s own so I can feed my dog a variety because he does not like the chicken or turkey
GabbyLeBlanc (verified owner) –
Preferred the chunkier grind, especially for the chicken. Super happy they went back to the plastic wrapped packaging, also very glad they removed the Wheat Grass from the ingredients because one of my dogs cannot have it – she gets horrendous diarrhea if she does. Hoping they come out with more XL variety boxes.

Been using Big Country Raw for about four years.
This new bistro product is great as per my Springers smile.
My one and only issue is the packaging of the servings not being resealable.
Not a deal breaker, just a bit of a nuisance.

The XL Bistro is great for our Doberman. The ability to offer her several different proteins over the week is a great convenience and I believe it to be a healthier option than giving her just one or two proteins. The smaller packages gives me peace of mind that her food doesn’t go off before using. Since giving Storm raw, she now cries for her food unlike when she was on kibble which she only grazed on through the day. Now her bowl is clean in no time. To be honest, I was hesitant to go raw at first. But now I’m glad I did. And I know that Storm is also glad
Mike –
This is a big hit! With 2 large dogs, the pricing, variety and package size is on point. My dogs love this and no need to look at which raw package is on special.
Really hope that this size and price lasts for a long time.
Thanks Big Country Raw.

Our dogs have been on BCR for a few years now.
Great product and ingredients.
If I was to confine any fault, it would be the packaging.
The 2lb containers sometimes leak (no big deal really when on a saucer)
but the 1.5 lb packages don’t reseal when not fully used in one feeding.
Fairly minor issues for an outstanding product.

I have a Big Country dog (Greater Swiss MD) who is 115lb and these larger grinds are just perfect for her! She eats about 1.5lb a day (with other toppers such as sardines, eggs, muscles and raw bone a few times a week), so these pack sizes are perfect for us. She gobbles them all up and I love the Bistro Box with the variety of proteins so I can rotate. Thank you BCR!
Katherine –
I absolutely love BCR products. My dogs (14 & 11 years old) are truly thriving on the food and this variety box is perfect for their needs and my wallet. My only complaint is the box themselves. They are SO thin and almost always fall apart when I’m carrying them (the box bottomed out today as I walked it into my building) the handles are useless as they just rip. I’m hoping there might be a change there in the future of the XL boxes.
Aside from that detail the food is amazing and I’m so happy to have healthy, active seniors because of BCR 🙂

I love the XL option BUT it’s extremely unfortunate it has so much plastic. It would be nice if it were in tubs instead. I won’t be buying the XL again unless it’s switched.
BCR –
Hi DHowie33, So glad that you love the XL recipes. We offer our XL line in plastic pouches to keep costs down for our customers. If you prefer using the paperboard tubs, our Grab & Go 18lb boxes would be the perfect choice.
Laura –
We’ve been feeding raw for quite a while now. In October, we brought home a puppy after our dog passed a few months earlier and started him on raw right away. Previously we had been feeding our dog that passed the Grab N Go dinners – which she loved, but we had the XL recommended to us after inquiring about putting the puppy on raw straight away.
There were a couple of meals we had to feed him kibble from the breeder because we weren’t able to go purchase raw food for him right away. (It was a very long drive to pick him up and bring him home.) The day after he came home, we went to the store that we’ve been buying raw food from for years and picked up his first box of XL. Let me tell you, he loved it. We had to hold him back from climbing into the bowl with the food. Feeding time is the MOST exciting time of the day for him because he loves his food so much.
Brittany –
Would love to see Turkey salmon lamb, or duck instead of chicken! Luckily I have two dogs so one can eat the chicken, but more variety would be awesome for the bigger boxes!
Ellie Mae –
This is the perfect size for our Boxer! He loves the Bistro variety. I did find the chicken to be a much smaller grind, exactly the same as the 1 lb packages we feed our Boston. Not sure if the food was mixed up during packaging. Also, the packaging leaks when thawing – it appears to be much flimsier than the packaging used for the 1 lb food. (similar to the “leaking” issue with the cartons)
Kaylie –
Unfortunately all 3 of my dogs would not touch this food
they’ve ate raw from several different brands and I’ve never experienced them not wanting to even touch the food!
I tried both beef and turkey but that hated both
I also found that the beef was a very dark brown color even before opening the package and the meat was dry and tough to cut through which was very odd!
Would not recommend this product!!
BCR –
Hi Kaylie, XL Beef is different than many other brands and proteins. The dark, nutrient dense vegetables, as well as the minimal mixing process, give the product it’s unique colour and texture. We stand behind every product we sell – if you, or your pets, are unsatisfied, please return for a refund or exchange.

We’ve been using BCR since our Australian Sheppard came home from the breeder .. and she is thriving .. the vet has nothing bad to say about what we feed her .. our Willow loves the XL and is a great value .. thank you BCR ..
Anna Placzek –
love the xl line, having 4 dogs to feed this is a great option, my only concern is why 12lb of chicken? My bully is allergic and cant have it, which leaves it to my chihuahua’s which is ok but how about putting in salmon or a different protein, or leave chicken out as it has its own xl box. none the less, my dogs love it and im happy
