Your pet’s health and safety have always been our top priority. This is why we are proud to have a full time pet nutrition expert and Agronomist on the Big Country Raw team. Julie Lauzon, agr, M. Sc., is responsible for the formulation of our recipes and ensuring that they meet nutritional requirements – which includes laboratory analysis on ingredients, for all macro and micronutrients, as well as amino and fatty acids.
Julie uses the Genesis Food Formulator, which is the industry gold standard when it comes to quality and accuracy. All of the ingredients for a recipe are entered into Genesis and are measured against NRC guidelines – this helps us to calculate the appropriate amount of each ingredient required in a recipe. Once the recipe meets the requirements, the full recipe is tested again to ensure it matches closely to the software results.
These steps are the only way to truly guarantee the nutritional value of our food. We do not cut corners when it comes to the quality of our food.

Like so many of us, Julie has always been passionate about animals - especially dogs - for as long as she can remember. She always knew that her career would, in some way, be linked to animals.
Nutrition became a passion for Julie when she was in her second year at Université Laval, studying Agronomy. This is when she was able to understand the impact that nutrition has on animal health and performance and how we can enhance the nutritional value of food - from seed, to plant, to animal. Understanding the whole picture of the food cycle, from soil science to crops and harvest, as well as farm animal feeds and well-being – and linking it to animal physiology of nutrition and biochemistry – is both Julie’s strength and passion.
Julie’s vast education includes a 4-year Bachelor’s Degree in Agronomy, a 2-year Master Degree in Animal Science, paired with countless hours of continuous training and education in pet nutrition (including Colorado State University) as well as accreditation with Agrologist Canada, makes her an invaluable resource for Canadians who need advice on pet food and supplements.
With dogs of her own who compete in a high level of agility, Julie understands the concerns of Canadian pet parents who want to offer their pets the best nutrition possible. She is proud to be able achieve this with Big Country Raw. Together with Big Country Raw, Julie works daily to improve the pet food industry to make raw feeding easy and available to every pet in Canada.
