Catober Spotlight: Feline Favourites for a Healthier, Happier Cat
October isn’t just about pumpkin spice and cozy sweaters - it’s also the perfect time to celebrate our feline companions. Catober is a chance to spotlight the unique needs and preferences of cats, and to explore the foods, supplements, treats, and enrichment tools that help them thrive. Whether you’re new to raw feeding or a seasoned pro, Big Country Raw offers a curated selection of products that support your cat’s health from whiskers to tail.
Raw Food That Cats Crave
Cats are obligate carnivores, which means their bodies are designed to thrive on a meat-based diet. Big Country Raw’s Fare Game line contains 6 unique recipes: Chicken & Beef, Turkey Sardine & Beef, Rabbit & Pork, Kangaroo & Lamb, and Quail Duck & Lamb, are ideal for cats and contain no added fruits or vegetables, making them perfect for feline digestion and nutrient absorption. Each Fare Game recipe is crafted to meet the nutritional needs of cats at every life stage.
Big Country Raw Pure & Blend recipes, though suitable for cats containing no fruits or vegetables, are intended to be supplemental feeding choices or toppers. When feeding as the sole element of the diet, being compared to a cat’s nutritional needs, the bone content is too high and the bone pieces too large and are not complete and balanced meeting all micronutrient minimum levels. These recipes are single ground with only meat, bone, and organ and require supplementation to become complete recipes. Thrive Fortify RX is specifically made to augment these recipes to complete them, as part of a menu rotation that includes at least 3 different protein options.
Alternatively, Fare Game recipes are nutritionally balanced for cats and kittens with a slightly lower bone content and double ground to ensure smaller bone pieces. To reiterate this, in 2025 we updated our Pure and Blend packaging removing the cat graphic.
Perhaps you’re considering transitioning to a raw diet, or you’ve already tried and failed, we can help. It’s important to know that cats imprint on their food at a very young age which is why they are often very hesitant to try anything new. With a little patience and trial and error, even the most finnicky cat can make the switch, even if just partially. Because it’s true that some fresh food is better than none. Science shows that adding as little as 20% fresh food into the diet has major health benefits, even reducing the risk of cancer.
If you’re wanting to make the transition, even just in part to a fresh food, raw diet, we have a great Raw Master Class blog post: Tips for Transitioning your Adult Cat to Raw that provides some great tips and tricks.
Supplements That Support Vitality
Even the best raw diets can benefit from targeted supplementation. Big Country Raw’s Thrive line of supplements offers feline-friendly options that support everything from digestion to joint health.
- Thrive Salmon Oil is a feline favourite – a delicious way to add heart-healthy omega-3 fatty acids
- Thrive Pro-gut is a great addition to the bowl for added probiotics. Offer just a few times per week or when needed to help with digestive upset.
- Thrive Bladder Support contains cranberry extract and D-Mannose, along with 7 other herbs and nutrients to provide bladder and urinary tract support.
Bones & Treats That Delight (and Nourish)
The health and dental benefit of chewing bones are just as great for cats as they are for dogs. Chewing and eating bones can help relieve stress, offer nutrients benefitting joint health, reduce the risk of kidney disease, and offer mental and physical exercise. A few great options for cats: Duck Feet, Chicken Feet, and Sardines (for the fish loving feline).
If you’ve never tried them, quail eggs are a superb fresh food addition for several reasons. Not only are they the perfect size for a cat, about 1/3 the size of a chicken egg, they contain choline and lecithin - two compounds that work together to reduce the frequency of hairballs. Choline works to control the muscles of the digestive tract to keep it moving, and lecithin contains ingredients to help breaks up hairballs enabling them to pass more easily. For cats prone to developing hairballs, just 1 or 2 quail eggs per week might help to solve this problem.
Treats aren’t just for spoiling, they’re also great for training, bonding, and adding enrichment. Hero Treats are single-ingredient, dehydrated snacks that cats love. Hero Mini Bones are the perfect cat-sized, low-calorie treat – available in Rabbit, Venison, Turkey, or Duck. Also available are Hero Dehydrated Rabbit Feet and Ears, a treat adventure unlike any other. And the best part, these treats are made with human-grade ingredients, so you can feel good about every bite.
Enrichment That Engages
Cats need mental stimulation just as much as physical nourishment. Enrichment tools like puzzle feeders, lick mats, and interactive toys can turn mealtime into playtime. Try spreading their raw meal on a lick mat or freezing a portion of raw food in a silicone mold for a slow-release snack.
No matter your cat’s diet, Raw Fermented Goat Milk or bone broth make great fresh food additions with tons of health benefit. Our goat milk contains 2 active probiotic cultures making it great for gut health while bone broth is loaded with collagen and joint-healthy glucosamine and chondroitin. Add a little at mealtime or freeze in the enrichment feeder of your choice to make mealtimes a mental and physical challenge your cat is sure to love.

October is the perfect time to rethink how we care for our cats, from what goes in their bowl to how we enrich their daily lives. Catober isn’t just a celebration; it’s a reminder that our feline companions deserve nutrition tailored to their instincts, treats that support their health, and enrichment that keeps their minds sharp.
